A collection of works by German photographer Yana Wernicke. This series combines German romanticism and a modern value system, and records the intimate bond between two young women and the farm animals they save, love, play and care for, along with mysterious elegance.
The famous book by British novelist and art critic John BergerWhy do you see animals? (Why Look at Animals?)(1997) talks about the "solitude as a species" of modern humans, how ancient connections between humans and nature have collapsed, and how the existence of animals has been reduced to things, goods, or "others" that have been despised. This series is a moving portrait of two young women who have built deep connections with animals by the author, who was worried about the modern man's desire to be more strongly connected to ecology. Rosina and Julie each saved the dying animals and formed a relationship of trust and affection with animals that are generally only seen as economic value.
In German, "Companion" or "Weggefährten" is a literal translation of "someone who walks along the road." Through compassion, contact and intuition, the author follows the path of joy, emotion, love and playfulness on his own camera, in order to try to bridge the gap between the emotional consciousness of a person and the animals living on his side.
