A collection of works by Japanese photographer Hideko Hosoe. The author, born in Yamagata Prefecture in 1933, is one of the most influential photographers in the history of postwar Japanese photography. Published in conjunction with a major retrospective exhibition to be held at Kiyosato Photo Art Museum from July to December 2021, this photo book was published in collaboration with internationally renowned curator and researcher Yasufumi Nakamori (Senior Curator of International Art (Photography), Tate Museum of Art). It can be said to be the most important document regarding Hideko Hosoe.

Hosoe began his career in the mid-1950s. As an artist who handles images dynamically, as a curator who introduced the works of many European and American photographers to Japan, and as a mentor who helped develop the careers of many famous photographers including Daido Moriyama, he has always been active at the forefront of the Japanese photography world.

In 1959, the photographer group ``Vivo” together with Shomei Tomatsu and Kikuji Kawada. In 1974, he co-founded ``WORKSHOP Photography School'' and participated as an instructor. In addition to his activities as a writer, he also worked as an educator, building university curriculums and creating a wonderful collection of photographs. In this process, he led the establishment of Japan's post-war photography world, discovering new points of contact between photography and art, literature, performance, film, etc., within the existing art forms of documentary and realism.

This collection of works, which summarizes the artist's activities to date, introduces not only major series but also portraits of writers, critics, dancers, and artists. Additionally, two essays that provide new perspectives on the work are reprinted, as well as highly original texts on Hideko Hosoe written by writers and critics such as Yukio Mishima and Shuzo Takiguchi. Thanks to Hideko Hosoe's wide-ranging activities, this book has been completed as a book that also tells about important artists in the fields of postwar Japanese art, photography, dance, and literature.
