limited edition of 300 copies
A collection of works by Kenya-born British ceramic artist Magdalene Odundo, American artist Simone Leigh, and American sculptor Thaddeus Mosley. The three artists engage in a wide range of creative activities worldwide, and in "collaboration that gives off a sense of jazz in a broad sense of improvisation, syncopation, research, consideration, attention, and memory," the three artists combine the beauty created by aligning visual "traditions" in the three works. This book, produced as a small printed material that archives the exhibition, captures the spirit of the exhibition and goes beyond the temporality of an exhibition that shows the position of the work in history. When you open the DL-standard brown Manila envelope, a sheet appears vividly colored with silkscreen, and a white linen envelope with foil stamping is also housed. The envelope contains a bust of Simone Lee, a sculpture by Thaddeus Mosley, a card with offset printed on Magdalene Odund's vessels, a photo print showing the exhibition (with stamps on the back), and a booklet containing an essay by art critic and curator Lauren DeLand. This work was exhibited by three artists at the London gallery "Maximillian William."Embodying AnewThis work was published in conjunction with the launch of ", and is the second collaboration between InOtherWords and the gallery. (The first installment is Coco Capitan's "NAÏVY』)Embodying Anew a is show including works by Magdalene Odundo, Simone Leigh and Thaddeus Mosley, three artists who engage extensively with international creative practices to synthesis the aesthetics of a vast array of visual traditions within their work “collectively, this feels like the wildest kind of jazz: it is improvisation, syncopation, science, care, attention, memory”. Conceptualised and designed as an archived ephemera the limited edition publication captures the spirit of the show and transcends its temporaryity marking its position in history. Comprised of a manilla DL envelope containing a silkscreened colour sheet wrapping a die-stamped linen envelope. Inside a series of offset reproductions featuring a bust by Simone Leigh, a sculpture by Thaddeus Mosley and three Vessels by Magdalene Odundo with a hand-stamped Colour Photographic Print of the installation and a booklet with an essay by Lauren DeLand.
