A collection of works by Dutch artist Mark Manders. It was published in conjunction with an exhibition held at the ZENO X GALLERY gallery in Antwerp, Belgium from September to October 2022. This book provides an overview of the long-standing collaboration between the author and the gallery, and presents the author's numerous important exhibitions and special projects both inside and outside Belgium, from the 1990s to the present day.
Since 1986, the author has been creating works such as installations, sculptures, paper works and drawings, in line with the concept of "self-portraits as a building." These works are considered metaphors of fictional buildings and are divided into separate "rooms" that are not of exact shape or size. There is no beginning or end. The author pursues timeless universality using familiar materials such as clay, bronze, and wood and typical forms. The author's bronze sculptures and installations appear to be more fragile than the materials he actually used.
The book includes texts contributed by the author, as well as texts by Frank Demaegd, founder of Xenoix Gallery, and Dutch art historian and author Marjolein Sponslee.
