A collection of works by British photographer Richard Billingham. This is a new edition of the collection of the same title, which was first published in 1996 by the Swiss publisher "SCALO" and received great acclaim. This book is one of the most important photo books of the early 20th century, and was a cornerstone of the Young British Artists (YBAs) generation. Comprised of intimate, candid images of the author's chaotic family home, weighed down by alcoholism and poverty, it was compiled and produced in the 1990s by artist and writer Michael Collins and photographer Julian Germain. This edition is the first to restore the author's original vision for this deeply personal work. Containing many unpublished works and a unique approach to sequences influenced by his training as a painter, this book can be described as a ``director's cut'' edition, reintroducing vibrant works that are constantly challenging themselves to move into a new era.
``, which was released simultaneously with the publication of the new edition.RAY'S A LAUGH: A READER, edited by Liz Jobey, traces the history of this fascinating work, from Billingham's 'discovery' during his time at Sunderland University, through its nomination for the Turner Prize in 2001, to the publication of its current revised edition.
「This book is about my immediate family. Her father, Raymond, is a chronic alcoholic. He doesn't like to go out and mostly drinks the alcohol he brews himself. My mother, Elizabeth, hardly drinks, but she smokes a lot. I like pets and decorative things. They married in 1970 and I was born shortly after. His younger brother, Jason, was left behind when he was 11 years old, but has now returned to live with Ray and Liz. Recently he became a father. Ray says Jason is out of control. Jason says that Ray is funny, but he doesn't want to be like that.” - From the introduction to the first edition
