As I researched how this clothing, which had a history of being developed as underwear to be worn under uniforms and military uniforms, was made, I discovered that it was created by America's rational approach to manufacturing. The fabric is knitted into a tube shape called Marudo, and has holes for the neck and arms, and sleeves.It has a simple design with no waste. Although they look similar to those worn on a daily basis today, they are completely different in nature. The design is a nod to the designs of the time, with no shoulder slope, a boat neck-like neckline, and double neck ribs to prevent stretching. The round jersey is made using a loop knitting machine in Wakayama. By using USA cotton, the fabric has a unique dry texture. Loop knitting machines, which entered Japan in the Taisho era, are currently operating in Wakayama Prefecture, the only place in the world. It is extremely inefficient as it can only knit 1 meter per hour, but by taking your time, the fabric has a unique texture with just the right amount of unevenness, as if air has also been knitted together.
