A collection of works by Elmgreen & Dragset, an artist duo consisting of two Berlin-based Berlin-based Michael Elmgreen and Inger Dragset. It was published from November to December 2021 at the gallery "PACE" in New York, along with the author's first large-scale solo exhibition.
This book is a surreal study and consideration of domestic neurosis by two installation masters, and introduces the latest works from the time of the event and a range of works from recent years. They became known worldwide for their installation work "Prada Marfa" (2005), which features a store modeled after the luxury fashion brand PRADA on the road of the Mexican border town of Marfa. They have been based in Berlin since 1995, where art, architecture, performance and installation all intersect.
This book contains images of "The Nervous System," an immersive presentation that surreally depicts a non-functional home built inside "PACE." The exhibition scene consists of 12 works, 10 of which are new works. The film, which is entwined with a variety of sculpture elements and fixed as a unit of intricate conjugates, is presented in a way that encourages viewers to voluntarily interpret themselves. They reverse the actions based on their experiences of reading novels, providing images for themselves, and leaving the story structure to the viewer.
It includes texts by critic Martin Herbert and interviews by art historian Richard Shiff.
