A collection of works by Yvonne Rainer, an American dancer, choreographer and film director. A reprint of the collection of works of the same name, published in 1974 by Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

It goes without saying that dance is dance, and dance books are books. These two may be encountered at a place where art and goodwill intersect, but I am not satisfied with that. I've been obsessed with words for many years. The conviction that words above all else gives us the key to clarity is not easily overturned. Words do not replace experiences, they are mirrors that reflect our experiences, and when necessary they set a distance between us and experiences. So, in a way, I'm trying to "replace" my performance with a book. He greedily tries to clarify what has already been revealed in other expressions through words. But unfortunately, it disappeared. I think this is a good reason to put the traces of my performance into one book, leaving the words to come up with. I'll write about it here: "She usually performs, but she's also written a book.""-Yvonne Rayner

In 1974, the author wrote a collection of works that compiled a wealth of illustrations of his previous performances.WORK 1961–73' has been published. At the same time as the art world became more leaning towards minimalism, the author and his friends who founded the Judson Dance Theater were also trying to redefine the avant-garde of dance.

They removed the glamour and serious, savory techniques that would catch the eye from dance, and created what dancer and choreographer Pat Catterson calls it, "people dance." Or, instead of the "above-blown plot" of traditional dance, as the author did, he explored another "obvious" way of "standing, walking, running, eating, carrying bricks, being able to watch a movie, or being moved and moved by something other than himself."

This book records years from time to time a time when the author realized that he and his work were at the heart of the revolution in dance, performance and art. Colored with photographs, handwritten sheet music, sketches, press articles and other printed materials, the work is a record, instruction manual, archive and manifesto of the author's era written in the author's frank, entertaining, keen, and incredible prose.

This rare masterpiece has been reprinted as a complete recreation, with a few new and slightly commentary added at the end of the book. One of the most influential artists of his generation, he is a dancer, choreographer and filmmaker and was a founding member of New York's Judson Dance Theatre, and contributed to the development of minimalism and postmodernism. This book is a must-see for anyone interested in the author and the radical developments of the 1960s dance and performances.
